Let’s just take a moment and morn what could be but won’t. It’s bad enough that VW has given up on diesel in the US, so any hope of an American GTD is gone, but also the Sportwagen, and alltrack are both available only as 1.8t powered cars. The Alltrack only being available with an Automatic transmission. At this point I see no hope for a GTW(gti wagen) or R estate.

I know. But actually I think a GTI wagon, like an Focus ST wagon would sell pretty well. And they have all the parts there so why not?

In the US market, the wagon is now a Golf, not a Jetta.

Since Mk6 came out, the Jetta had a longer wheelbase anyway, so it really is a Golf.

So, GTI.

And they have all the parts there so why not?

because- “having all the parts there” or not- they still have to prototype, test, and certify each body style and powertrain combination. There’s tens to hundreds of millions of dollars spent and no certainty they’ll sell enough to recover those costs.

you can get a stick in the Golf Sportwagen, but not the Alltrack. And only in an S, and only a five speed.

Golf Sportwagen 4Motion has the 6-speed.

Alltrack S and SE will have late availability with the 6-speed manual.

GSW S 4Motion and Alltrack S and SE will all have 6-speed manuals with late availability.

The 1.8TSI is a very capable engine, tuning has unlocked some very impressive power.

They don’t make a GTI wagon in Europe either, just GTD and R. Something to do with not diluting the GTI’s image as the quintessential hot hatch.

But why not hat wagon? Just throw the GTI stuff and a wagon and call it something else. They did the same thing with the GLI maybe this could be he GWI or GTW. Or call it a Sportwagen Fox? Brands love bringing back older cooler names even what it doesn’t make sense.
